the addition of the loosey goosey french braid is quintessentially Romantic. It’s virtually effortless (if you know how to plait) and looks like a ton of effort was involved in the making of the do. What I love about this look, is that it works just as easily at a table for two as it does curled on the sofa with your bestie watching Kate Hudson RO-CO’s and stuffing your face au chocolate…..

ok so here’s the thing. I know it’s been a pretty long time since I last blogged, I mean I think its been close to five months, which is pretty sad when you think about it. So when the holidays came and went, and then New Years and still no entries, I knew it was time to take some drastic action

It was finally January when I decided, stop procrastinating and get writing. It was just about that time that I almost made some terrible New Year’s resolution to start blogging at least once a week amongst other impossibilities that would have been difficult to adhere to.

Now I know what you’re thinking. How could I possibly blog once a week, when I hadn’t been able to blog once in the last 5 months!! Well you’re right, I couldn’t And that’s the trouble with New Year’s Resolution’s; nobody follows them!! Well at least I don’t, and i’m pretty sure I’m not the only one, so stop trying to make me feel bad.

So with onset of February already behind us, I give to you my first entry of twenty twelve.

Do I promise to blog once a week? well I think its safe to say that I won’t bite off more than what I can chew. But what i will promise is this:

I promise quality blog posts

I promise them on a more consistent basis

I promise lotsa pics

I promise guest bloggers

and I promise to give it my all.

I mean I think that’s a pretty good starting place giving my track record for last year.

So here’s to you, a very belated, but truly heartfelt, Happy New Years.

Fall/Winter 2011 Trend Report: Ombre Hair

Yes, yes I know, Ombre is not a new term to you, and by now everyone and their boyfriend has heard the word. But trust me, this doesn’t change its relevancy to hair. This trend is as current now as it was 3 years ago when it first peaked its light blond strands from beneath Gisele Bundchen’s beautiful brown hair. From that moment on women everywhere were curious to find more about this “grown out” look that left us wondering, “was that on purpose, or not?”

In the fall most of us ladies are ready for a change. So lets chat. Its September and you’ve just come back from your European vacay, weekend at the cottage, trip to Vegas/South Beach, going down to Cherry, Polson or Woodbine Beach on your days off, hanging by the pool, or plain old fakin’ it down at the good ole electric beach…. the truth of it is, that no matter what, its fall and your hair color is anything but perfect. You’ve got roots for sure, maybe even brassy or faded, dull or washed out long overdue ‘lites’ or an overall color in need of some serious Rx. You’re thinking what can I do aside from going dark?

Enter ombre.

So let’s get a little technical? what is ombre some might ask? Ombre Hair is when hair grows from dark roots to lightened lengths and ends, in a series of 3 or more shades. Sounds easy right? Like letting a month old pedi polish grow out under your eyes. But let’s be perfectly clear, like any other DIY home project, its very easy to make this blended hair color look like a botched bathroom job. So be extra careful if attempting this your self. The last thing we’re going for is ” I just don’t have enough time/money to do my roots. (although this is often a great way to achieve it)

Many girlies claim to have been doing Ombre for years, in fact just look at any 16 year old who has experimented with a bottle of sun in at camp and see their grown out perfection come late September. Golden ends and length and a chocolaty root area all blended to perfection. And from this scenario and many others like it, Ombre was born.

So you can see why September is the perfect time of year to start thinking about trying this look. It’s an economical, versatile look that almost anyone can achieve from where they are right now. No more damaging than highlights, ombre is perfect because it works well on every client. You can have almost any length, although it works better on mid to longer lengths. It can be fine or thick, curly or straight. It makes little difference if its natural or processed.

So let’s get to it. Some tips for great Ombre:

Pick a set of 3 shades that are all complimentary in the same shade within a similar level.(see pictures)

Have your technician think out of the box, forget the foils and go freehand. This term is called balliage (hand painted perfection) this allows you to really choose the pieces to lighten.

Try teasing your hair when applying the colors to avoid stark lines and a beautifully fused look from shade shade.

Use your natural or a colored base to start.

Most of all have fun. Because this look isn’t going anywhere.

Ok ok I know I’m jumping the gun about it, but when I say that summer’s nearly over and fall is almost upon us, it’s not because I want to ignore the lazy hazy sunny days of an Indian Summer, but because I really do get excited around the thought of fall.

The reason for this early statement is because I get a certain rumble of excitement in my stummy when I think about fall. I love fall, I just love it, everything about it. I love the turning of the leaves, the golden hues of sunset and most of all, a big fat juicy Vogue with tons of new advertisements, Fall Trend Reports all the new fall/winter collections. It’s enough to make my heart go pitter patter, to skip a beat, to feel as though I’m walking on air…. Ok ok again, I know I’m sounding a bit excitable. But to tell you the truth there is something about fall that always reminds me of renewal. Maybe it’s the internal student in me that makes me think of new clothes, new shoes, new hair and makeup but there is something about fall that is more New Years than New Years.

This is the reason I felt it the appropriate time to launch the domenico & drea blog. Anyone that knows me knows that I am a bit of a procrastinator and this blog has been in the works for quite some time. I registered the name with Tumblr ages ago, I have even gone through various template but never a post. It’s not that I was scared, I was always waiting – waiting for the right time.

It was actually the appearance of the September Issues in my mailbox that inspired me to get down to business. I love the glossy pages, the thickness of the issues, almost double in most cases, it’s beautiful it really is. But it’s not just the beauty of is, it’s the content. The pages and pages of new material, the Fall Trend Reports , the outrageous new designs collections set to challenge our notion of fashion and the fashion world, the hair, the make up. All of it….

This is the stuff that inspires me, the stuff that makes me want to think and write and share. So when asked again why I chose to launch my blog in late August , well I hope this first post has given you a idea as to how much I love this time of year and why.

So I want to take this time to formally welcome you to domenico&drea . I promise you this is the first and the last of the long winded posts. So if you came with me on this journey from the top of page to bottom then thank you. Welcome, stay awhile, we’re gonna talk fashion, hair, makeup, tools, and tons of products, and there will even be something for the boyfriends, fiancée’s and hubby’s too, so no one is left out.
